MDD Biomarker
Phosphorylethanolamine (PEA)
- IUPAC: 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate
- Molecular formula: C2H8NO4P
- Exact mass: 141.019097
Phosphorylethanolamine (PEA) is a biomarker for major depressive disorder and measured in blood plasma. PEA can distinguish patients with MDD from patients suffering from other mood disorders such as bipolar and adjustment disorder. Traditional biomarkers such as brain-derived neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) cannot make such a detailed distinction.
